About Us

Christian Surfers Costa Rica is made up of people who love God, enjoy surfing and are willing to pour out their lives for the Kingdom of God. We are single people, married couples, young, old and in-between, Costa Ricans and people from around the world with a heart for Costa Rica, longboarders and short boarders, big and small, long hair, short hair, and even no hair. What draws us together is our willingness to serve and our love for Jesus Christ.

vision

Vision:To be a Christian presence and witness to the Costa Rican surfing community.

Mission: To reach surfers with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, connect them to local churches so that they can then go back into their communities and beyond to reach other surfers.

Strategy: Our basic strategy is to start local chapters throughout Costa Rica with local surfers and surfer missionaries with a heart for reaching the Costa Rican surf communities. We are also establishing a national headquarters in order to train, mobilize and support leadership for the local chapters while providing a mission base for teams. Where is CSCR:

CSCR’s national headquarters is being established in Jaco, a major coastal community of Costa Rica approximately two hours from the capitol, San Jose, and midway along the Pacific coastline. Jaco has a large community of local and international surfers, along with all the surf culture trappings that go along with surfers. It is also the jumping off point for many traveling surfers due to its proximity along the Pacific Coast.

Jaco is the largest beach town in Costa Rica and a booming town for tourism that is growing at a tremendous pace with many condominium and hotel projects in process and in the works, shopping centers, grocery stores, restaurants and of course, surf shops. Jaco has become a center for beach living along the central Pacific coast.

history

In 2003, Christian Surfers Costa Rica was started in Jaco by three North Americans and two Costa Ricans. The goal was to reach out to surfers in Costa Rica by starting the first local chapter as a model for others to follow. In addition, there was also a vision for starting a mission base and a future national headquarters. By the end of 2003, the purchase of a property had begun and the chapter had been started. There have been many trials and victories along the way but through it all, we have persevered to fulfill the original vision. As of 2007, we have established a local chapter, been involved with ministry to children and youth, organize a yearly surf contest (The Eternal Crown), and invested into the community through service projects and personal relationships. In addition, the property hosts the local chapter, mission teams and traveling surfers/beach lovers while it continues in its development towards being the national headquarters.
